About Us

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at AVÑо¿Ëù is committed to providing comprehensive and specialized medical care to newborns, infants, children and adolescents with acute and chronic infectious diseases. We treat patients up to 21 years of age as new patients and 24 years of age as follow-upÌýpatients. Affiliated with Children’s Hospital of New York at NewYork-Presbyterian, we integrate basic pediatric care services with state-of-the-art treatment to meet the challenges posed by pediatric infectious diseases. This rapidly changing field requires specialized, innovative approaches to both common infections and more serious infectious diseases.

Our practice provides comprehensive and specialized medical care for neonates, children and adolescents with acute or chronic, acquired or congenital infections and in particular viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Our clinical team manages infectious diseases which range from simple diagnosis to uncommon, more complex and severe, affecting multiple body systems or associated with weakened immune systems.

Our specialists have expertise in the following areas:

Bacterial Infections

  • Bloodstream infections (including S. aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, GBS, etc)

  • Recurrent infections
  • Unknown or rare pathogens

Programs:

Antimicrobial Stewardship Program The team helps monitor and optimize how antibiotics and other infection-fighting medicines are used, ensuring treatments are effective, while reducing the risk of drug resistance, side effects and unnecessary use.

Infection Prevention and Control Program The program creates and follows safety protocols, educates hospital staff and responds quickly to outbreaks or new infectious threats, protecting vulnerable children and preventing the spread of infections within hospitals and clinics.

Congenital CMV Clinic:

Our specialized congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) clinic is a highly specialized, multidisciplinary center dedicated to the early detection, treatment and long‑term management of infants and children affected by congenital CMV infection.

In addition to comprehensive postnatal care, the clinic provides advanced prenatal counseling, along with specialists in maternal–fetal medicine, for expectant parents, offering evidence‑based guidance, diagnostic support and individualized risk assessment when cCMV is suspected or confirmed during pregnancy. Counseling on potential outcomes is offered to help families make informed decisions. This early involvement ensures a seamless transition from prenatal evaluation to coordinated newborn assessment and long‑term follow‑up.

Pediatric PsychologyÌýservices are available for patients seen in AVÑо¿Ëù pediatric medical divisions. Youth with acute or chronic medical illness are at greater risk for mental health concerns. The Pediatric Psychology Service provides short-term mental health consultation and treatment and collaborates directly with your child’s medical team. If you are interested in seeing a provider, please ask your medical team for a referral.
