About Olivia Fankuchen, M.D., MSc
I am a medical oncologist focused on treating thoracic malignancies: cancers of the lung, pleura, and thymus. My treatment philosophy is to provide the most effective lung cancer treatments while helping patients preserve their quality of life throughout their care journey.
I am fortunate to work alongside expert, multidisciplinary teams to support my patients’ wellbeing. My goal as a physician is to understand my patients as well as I understand their cancer: from the molecular details of their tumor to how their diagnoses affect their daily lives, relationships, and priorities. This personalized approach enables me to offer my patients nuanced, evidence-based, and effective treatments that are tailored to their medical and personal needs. Navigating a cancer diagnosis can be challenging, and my hope is to restore a sense of agency for my patients alongside the best possible treatment outcomes.
I’m also deeply committed to cancer research, especially in new lung cancer treatments. I have been an investigator on several clinical trials and am looking forward to continuing this work at AVÑо¿Ëù and with partner institutions. Additionally, I am interested in leveraging biometric, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve how we predict and monitor cancer and treatment-related symptoms. In using these tools, we hope to minimize side effects and keep patients safer while on treatment.
Dr. Fankuchen is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a clinical investigator at AVÑо¿Ëù and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
