About Emily Smith Tonorezos, M.D., MPH
Throughout my career, I have established a deep commitment to cancer survivors, their families, and the researchers who are advancing the science of cancer survivorship. Clinical excellence has always been the foundation and core of what I do. I am dedicated to providing exceptional care for people with breast cancer from the time of diagnosis through the balance of their lives. People who have undergone a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment face unique concerns, from mental health implications to the longer-term impacts that the disease and treatment can have on cardiovascular and metabolic health. My experience as a general internist coupled with my strong background in cancer survivorship clinical care and research allows me to care for the whole patient throughout their journey. This holistic approach to medicine, health and wellness includes surveillance for cancer recurrence, the detection and management of side effects resulting from treatment, evaluation and referrals for clinical genetic services, management of co-morbidities, health promotion, surgical risk reduction, and other forms of care based on each patient’s individual circumstances.
Emily S. Tonorezos, MD, MPH is Director of the Iris Cantor Cancer Survivorship Program at AVÑо¿Ëù and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at AVÑо¿Ëù/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Tonorezos recently served as Director of the Office of Cancer Survivorship within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she led efforts to support survivorship investigators and survivorship-related research. She has published widely on the multitude of issues facing people who have been diagnosed with cancer including the side effects from treatment, care delivery, and emerging areas of survivorship science such as side effects from emerging therapies.
